Advanced Level Course
The Advanced Level Course builds on the Intermediate (technical) Level Course directed at government or
private sector insurance representatives who want to move ahead with an agricultural insurance scheme and/or individuals
currently engaged in schemes who want to refresh or upgrade their skills and knowledge.
Special attention is given to specific program design issues faced by individual participant countries. The advanced technical level
courses will focus on case studies and address specific needs of the course participants who are planning to implement insurance schemes
or refine existing programs. The interactive nature of these sessions can incorporate experiences (lessons learned) from countries with
crop insurance schemes with direct input from attendees to the courses. In addition to the coursework, the Advanced Level Course will
include breakout sessions for each participant country to discuss their specific challenges and potential solutions directly, and
confidentially, with course faculty.
The objective of this course level is to provide participants with:
- A framework to conduct an initial program feasibility assessment;
- The ability to create a Terms of Reference document (TOR) for development and delivery of an actual insurance product;
- An operational focus to “in-field” program implementation; and
- An interactive computer program of insurance alternatives to a specific risk management problem with simulated market responses to the inputted insurance solution.
For clients who are moving forward with crop insurance development in workshops that began at the intermediate course level,
the advanced level course will continue integrating workshops were crop insurance programs are developed under the tutelage of
Institute faculty. In these instances, the workshops are designed to produce crop insurance designs that are ready for delivery
that have had input and active participation from a local network of crop insurance practitioners who have progressed through the
Institute courses. These workshop settings would be developed for one-on-one country application whereas the Institute course material
can be generically applied to all clients.
